St. Cecilia's Abbey, Isle of Wight, UK
1. Christ had now ascended to
heaven,
returned whence He had come,
ready to give the promised gifts
of the Father,
the Holy Spirit,
2. When the glad third hour
suddenly rings out upon the
world,
proclaiming that God has come
upon the Apostles as they
prayed.
3. So from the Light of the Father
is this lovely and loving Fire,
Who fills hearts faithful to
Christ
with the warmth of the Word.
4. Come down, O Holy Spirit,
and furnish our hearts - altars
to You –
with virtues,
and dedicate
them to Yourself as temples.
5. Grant
that, through You,
we
may have knowledge of the Father
and
may also know the Son, as well as always believe
in
You the Spirit of them both. Amen.
