Schola Sancte Scholasticae and St. Cecilia's Abbey, UK
1. Let joy be joined to sacred solemnities,
and let praise ring out from the depths of the
heart;
let the old pass away, let all be made new,
hearts, voices and works.
2. The Last Supper of that night is commemorated
in which Christ is believed to have given his
brethren
the lamb and the unleavened bread,
in accordance with the Law’s dispensation
given to their fathers of old.
3. He gave to the weak the meal of His Body,
and He gave to the sorrowful the drink of His
Blood,
saying: ‘Take the vessel I hand over to you;
drink of it, all of you.’
4. Thus He instituted this Sacrifice, the ministry
of which He willed to be entrusted to
priests alone,
whom it thus befits
to eat of it and give it to others.
5. The Bread of Angels becomes Bread of men;
the heavenly Bread puts an end to figures.
O thing most wonderful! the poor and humble servant
eats the Lord.
6. We ask You, O God Three and One,
to visit us just as we celebrate You;
along Your paths, lead us to where we are headed,
to the light where You dwell. Amen.
